The University of Hartford men's cross country team closed out their fall season in the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships with a 34th place finish..

The women's race starts on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men's race set to begin at 11 a.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Christopher Helminski led the men, while Sara Buckley continued her strong season for the women.

Jonas Hampton won the marathon in 2:15.57 to earn a spot in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. It was the first marathon of his career.

The University of Hartford women's cross country team dominated the field in a warm-up meet at the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday morning. All of the 12 Hawks who ran in the race finished in the top 16.

The Hartford Cross Country and Track & Field programs will be hosting the Hawktober 5K on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public, with an entry fee for $25.
